"an odd character"--Ruggles--Dec. 16th 1898-- An Ashland Countian who had
ancient coins, thought to be a pauper! An eccentric old man of Ruggles has
been removed to the county infirmary. His removal revealed a remarkable
state of affairs at his home. He lived alone and nearly starved himself to
death though he had plenty around him. For several years township trustees
have been furnishing him with food and clothing but when examining the
upstairs, found moldy crackers and coffee given him three years ago. A sack
of money was found. Coins over 100 years old were recovered........
