  • A lost ledge, originally discovered by a range cowboy, is said to be located near Kelly Creek. He marked it with his pick and shovel, but was killed before being able to return to it.

  • Henry Comstock supposedly found a ledge of rich silver in the Black Rock country, which he used to salt some worthless mines to sell them. He never returned to the Black Rock ledge to work it.

  • Large gold nuggets were shown to emigrants heading to California by Mormon Settlers in Carson Valley. They indicated the gold came from "hills to the north." The source of these nuggets has never been found.

  • Bill Daniely's Lost Mine is located somewhere near the north crest of the Santa Rosa Range. It was discovered when drilling for water, covered for work later, then all the discoverers died prior to opening the mine again.

  • J. A. Hardin was part of a hunting party for a wagon train when he cam upon what he thought was volcanic ash near Black Rock Point. Here he found a rich deposit of native silver. He could never relocate the exact spot.
