Located just off of the Auburn-Enumclaw
HW, directly across the river from the Green River Gorge Resort.
This town was a mining town during the late 1880's. There was a
mining accident where most of the men in the town were killed, then
a few months later the town burnt down. At the site you can view the
mine shaft, covered by a giant grate, as well as a memorial plack.
There is also a cemetary up the hill, along the river from the mine.
It used to be open to the public back in the 1990's, and we would
visit there as teens. I have heard there are foundations of old
buildings, but I haven't seen this myself. I don't know who owns the
land now, but it would be a shame for it to be privately owned and
closed to the public.
Hope this help.
